Springtime in Albuquerque
Spring has sprung with some awesome family-friendly events happening in Albuquerque all month long. Take a walk around the ABQ Museum garden and learn about the sculptures surrounding the grounds. Open your mind to wander with a new visual art exhibition at the Open Space Center with interactive events every single day. Take up a new hobby and get a closer look at the wildlife here in Albuquerque when you go bird-watching at your local library. There’s a whole day full of outdoor activities on the 22nd you won’t want to miss! Start your morning with the Backyard Market, then make your way to Balloon Fiesta Park for craft beer and soccer. End the night celebrating Albuquerque’s 317th birthday with food, games and music!
Sculpture Garden Tours
Get out of the house and enjoy this gorgeous weather by taking a sculpture garden tour every Wednesday and Saturday! Enjoy a pleasant stroll in Albuquerque Museum’s sculpture garden with a friendly docent who will share stories about the artists and their works. Bring the whole family from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the tour and spend the rest of the afternoon at the museum or exploring our Historic Old Town.
Gateway to Sense of Wonder
Hmm… Do you wonder? Well, the New Mexico Arts Imaginative Collective does and that’s why they have put together, “Gateway to Sense of Wonder: An Intersection of Nature and Art”, a visual art exhibition at the Coors Open Space Visitor Center. Five artists have joined together to create a combination of nature-inspired paintings, multimedia projects, and much more. The Collective has brought together an ensemble of performing artists who will present a series of educational and interactive community events from April 15th through July 8th.
Intro to the Outdoors: Learn to Birdwatch (for adults)
Take advantage of this beautiful warm weather with birding for beginners on April 20th. Come explore an easy, new hobby with the Open Space Division at the Lomas & Tramway Library as they talk about the hobby of bird watching from 3:30-5:00 pm. Learn the basics of using binoculars, identify common species, and hear about the best locations around the city to spot our feathered friends. Go on a guided walk around the urban space outside the library to test out your new skills!
Backyard Market at The ABQ Collective
Join The ABQ Collective and over 20 local vendors for their first-ever backyard market of the season Saturday, April 22nd from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm! Walk around to see what over 20 local vendors have to offer, along with live music and food trucks. The party doesn’t stop there because starting at 4:00 pm, it will be the launch of ABQ’s first Vegan Village! There will be vegan food trucks and vendors, live music and lots of fun!
2nd Annual Brewers & Distillers Cup
It’s happy hour all day at Balloon Fiesta Park on April 22nd. The 2nd annual Brewers and Distillers Cup is inviting you to this family-friendly craft beer and spirits festival showcasing a thrilling soccer tournament with local brewers versus distillers. Enjoy food trucks, craft beer and cocktails, local artisans, free kids zone, and great music. Kick back with a cold beer and let the games begin!
Albuquerque’s Birthday Celebration
It’s our birthday this month! Mark your calendars for April 22nd to celebrate Albuquerque’s 317th birthday with food, fun, live music and local flair in the heart of the City. Grab a quick bite from the food booths near the Gazebo, support local businesses throughout Old Town, and enjoy the family-friendly activities that are in store. There will be something for everyone at this party. There will be birthday must-haves such as face painting, entertainment and specials at various participating Old Town stores. Local entertainers Baila! Baila! Mariachi Tenampa, and Nosotros will perform on the Gazebo.

City Nature Challenge Albuquerque 2023: Community Science in Your Neighborhood and Beyond
Let’s go to the beach! Bring your friends and family on April 30th for a guided walk with educators from the Open Space Division to explore the local plants and animals at Tingley Beach Open Space. Thanks to the City Nature Challenge, an international effort to discover and document the plants and wildlife in cities around the world, our Open Space Division is offering special hikes each day starting April 29th through the 30th.
