Disney’s Newsies is a high energy show full of dancing and singing, perfect for the entire family. Featuring a diverse cast of all ages, Newsies is an exhilarating tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of the band of teenaged “newsies” who fight against the establishment. Inspired by a true story in turn-of-the century (1899) New York City, where Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful New York newspaper publishing giants raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, and Jack Kelly rallies the newsboys and leads the rebellion. The Broadway musical is based on the 1992 motion picture which features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots, Hairspray, La Cage aux Folles). The show features the classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe.” Newsies features over 20 Sandia Prep students, alumni and faculty. Landmark Musicals’ collaboration with Sandia Preparatory School allows both programs to utilize each other’s strengths with the goal of bringing the best possible product to Albuquerque stages.
