March 2023 Family Events

Marching through the month with family-friendly activities
With the weather warming up, that means more time to get out of the house and enjoy what Albuquerque has to offer. Start your mornings with fresh produce and yummy treats from local vendors at the farmers market in Los Ranchos. Make your way to the Albuquerque Museum later on for family arts and crafts while enjoying the incredible art all around you. Looking for something more in the performing arts area? Enjoy the Tony Award winning musical, Dear Evan Hansen, or kick into high gear for Monster Jam at Tingley Coliseum!
All That Glitters Is Gold Mercado
Come out for All That Glitters Is Gold Mercado on March 4 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm! Rayos Del Sol Mercado is located in the beautiful Los Ranchos De Albuquerque. This market is Chicana/Latinx Queer owned, where they provide a safe and welcoming space for all vendors and customers. Over 30 local food and artisan vendors will be in attendance. DJ N.B. will be mixing and bringing the hottest music.
Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour
Ignite your passion for adventure, action, and travel! The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will exhilarate you with amazing big-screen stories when it comes to the KiMo Theatre on March 10th and 11th. From 7:00 pm – 9:30pm, journey to the most captivating places on earth with a collection of the most inspiring action, environmental, and adventure films from the festival.
Family Art Workshops
Visit the Albuquerque Museum every Saturday from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. throughout the month for Family Art Workshops. Start the month sculpting your own style of shoe with air dry clay, then paint and embellish them to your funkiest desire. The following Saturday, make a mixed-media poster inspired by themes central to Danny Lyon’s photography (visit Gallery 1). Think about non-violent activism, climate change, environmental issues, and civil and human rights. Later in the month, check out world-renowned artist and designer Ramona Sakiestewa’s (Hopi) beautiful modern yet traditional weaving Rose Lake (for Ruth) in the exhibition Indigenous Art, Culture, and Community, and then come make your own vibrant weaving using gorgeous fibrous paper strips. On the final Saturday of the month, they will be making a fun paper art project to celebrate the coming of Spring! Punch out colorful and patterned paper circles and string them together to make a set of beautiful hanging garlands. All ages will enjoy our family art projects. Work on a new project each week. Try your hand working with a variety of art mediums — all materials supplied. Child and grown-up friendly!
